• To set up units to help expand the national development activities with the assistance of government institutions, national and international institutions, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and other organizations.
  • To prepare schemes and programmes based on the existing infrastructure and national framework of policies which are helpful to provide services to the general public.
  • To establish formal and nonformal relationships between the political leadership and the public /private sectors so as to solve the problems which stand as obstacles to providing services properly to the general public.
  • To bring about a complete development in the physical, mental, ethical, religious and social state of women, children and youths and to protect them from exploitation and to take action against injustices done to them and to be always vigilant regarding the public interest.
  • To convey to the relevant authorities the findings and revelations in relation to the above and to convince them to take action rapidly.
  • To build mutual co-operation and instill confidence among all the members irrespective of communal, linguistic, employment or political differences, to make the women participate as a unified group committed to the national development effort.
  • To vouchsafe that the concern of the employed woman is not confined to her employment but is also protective of the family unit and plays a wider role of endeavouring to form a perfect male and female integrated Sri Lanka with special reference to the young generation.
  • To obtain the co-operation of the non-governmental organizations to act efficiently in the development effort and to give strength to expand the activities relating to formal and educational institutions as well as of co-operative and social welfare projects.
  • To conduct surveys and studies in collaboration with the Sri Lanka women's Bureau, Secretariat of Children, Government organizations and no-government organizations and collect data relating to women and children with the assistance of these institutions and to identify problems to which special attention should be drawn.
  • To induce all citizens to take the responsibility entrusted to them in society.
